To support your query about citric acid use in our products – our products use this ingredient for a couple of reasons:

- The first reason is for safety. In a water-based solution we need a preservative system to make sure that harmful microbes don’t grow (particularly important with oral sprays as they go into the mouth!). For that preservative system to work, we have to control pH and we use citric acid to do this. Citric acid itself is also a natural anti-microbial alongside potassium sorbate and xylitol, so all three work together to keep our products safe.

- The second reason is for aesthetics! To achieve our fantastic flavours that customers love, we can control the flavour profile by adjusting the level of citric acid within a product.

Whenever we use citric acid it is always at a regulated and safe level, and our source is synthetic and produced to industry gold-standard. The benefits of synthetic ingredients is that you can achieve a standard product every single time it’s produced as you have no natural variables to account for. This is incredibly important for us, as we’re using this ingredient from a safety perspective. Where possible we will always aim to use natural ingredients, but sometimes we opt for a synthetically derived version if we believe the quality is better using this source.
